Welcome to Maple Bear Secondary School, where academic rigor meets holistic development in a supportive and vibrant international community. As a secondary school in our second year of operation, we are rapidly growing to provide a world-class education that prepares students to thrive in an interconnected, rapidly changing world.
At Maple Bear, we empower students to become compassionate global citizens, lifelong learners, and confident leaders.
We proudly launched Grades 6 through 9 and achieved International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) Candidate Status. Maple Bear also entered candidacy as an IB Diploma Programme (DP) Candidate School.
We are expanding to offer Grades 6 through 11 as we pursue full IB MYP Authorization. We also aim to achieve full IB DP authorization during this school year.
Laying the foundation to deliver the full IB Diploma to Grades 11 and 12, completing a seamless academic pathway from Grade 6 through to university entry.
Head of Secondary School
“Secondary school is a transformative time when young people transition from guided learners into independent, critical thinkers ready to shape their own futures.”
Welcome to Maple Bear Secondary School! As Head of Secondary, Oriana Guzman leads our IB MYP and DP programs with clarity, purpose, and heart. With over two decades of international education experience and ten years in IB leadership, Ms. Guzman brings a deep commitment to academic rigor and student wellbeing.
Under her leadership, our secondary program focuses on nurturing confident, principled learners who are academically challenged and emotionally supported.
Ms. Guzman works closely with our international faculty, students, and parents to cultivate an environment built on curiosity, mutual respect, and high standards—preparing every student to excel academically and thrive in an ever-changing world.
At Maple Bear, our Secondary Program supports students as they mature into independent, critical, and reflective learners.
We seamlessly blend global best practices—inspired by Canadian educational methodology—with the robust framework of the International Baccalaureate and local national curriculum standards.
Through conceptual inquiry, collaborative problem-solving, and hands-on learning, we create an environment where young people remain curious, build resilience, and develop the intellectual and emotional agility required for the 21st century.
Students investigate big ideas and driving questions, connecting subject knowledge to concepts that transfer across disciplines and contexts.
Learners work together to tackle open-ended challenges, building the communication, negotiation, and teamwork skills the modern world demands.
Practical, experiential tasks keep students curious, build resilience, and develop the intellectual and emotional agility required for the 21st century.
Language is central to learning and personal identity. At Maple Bear, we foster multilingualism by offering robust English as an Additional Language (EAL) support to ensure all students can confidently access the IB curriculum while simultaneously honoring and developing their mother-tongue languages (Uzbek and Russian) through specialized language and literature pathways.
Our secondary team comprises dedicated, highly qualified international educators with extensive experience in global and IB teaching frameworks.
Maple Bear continuously invests in comprehensive IB-accredited training and continuous professional development, ensuring our teaching practice reflects the latest research in pedagogy and assessment.
To maintain seamless communication, transparency, and academic tracking, we utilize Toddle—a premier learning management platform designed specifically for IB schools. Through Toddle, parents and students can access real-time assessment reporting, unit plans, coursework, portfolio submissions, and school updates.
We believe that academic achievement must be grounded in strong character and emotional wellbeing.
Every secondary student belongs to a dedicated Homeroom Advisory group that meets regularly. Our advisory curriculum is built on the principles of Positive Discipline, incorporating regular Classroom Meetings that foster mutual respect, active listening, conflict resolution, and community building.
Pastoral care and character development are deeply aligned with the IB Learner Profile—encouraging students to be:
Alongside character attributes, we explicitly teach Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, which equip students with essential lifelong competencies across five key domains:
Exchanging thoughts, messages, and information.
Collaboration and interpersonal relationships.
Organization, time management, affective control, and reflection.
Information literacy and media literacy.
Critical thinking, creative thinking, and transfer.
As an IB school, we cultivate principled learners who demonstrate honesty, responsibility, and ethical decision-making in their academic work. Through guided research units and our technology integration, students learn proper research methods, citation practices, and responsible, ethical engagement with digital tools and AI platforms.
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) provides a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.

To ensure a broad and balanced curriculum, Maple Bear offers a rich subject spectrum:
English Language & Literature, Russian Language & Literature
English Language Acquisition, French Language Acquisition
MYP Mathematics
Integrated & Discrete Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
Global perspectives, history, and humanities

In the MYP, learning is contextualized to help students understand why their studies matter. All subject units are framed through six global contexts:
Exploring who we are, human relationships, and physical/mental health.
Discovering personal histories, migrations, turns in human history, and civilizational development.
Examining how we express ideas, feelings, beliefs, and values through arts, literature, and technology.
Investigating the natural world, technological impacts, and scientific principles.
Understanding the connectedness of human-made systems and environmental responsibility.
Exploring rights, responsibilities, equality, peace, and conflict resolution.
Students at Maple Bear have the unique opportunity to fulfill local requirements alongside their IB pathway. Students will be eligible to earn the official National Secondary Diploma of Uzbekistan by satisfying local compulsory subject requirements in addition to earning their IB MYP Certificate.
MYP assessment is criterion-related and continuous. Rather than relying solely on traditional percentages or grading on a curve, student achievement is evaluated against pre-determined, published IB assessment criteria (describing levels 1–8).
Action and service are core components of the MYP. Through Service as Action, students apply classroom learning to real-world context, addressing community and environmental needs. SaA helps students develop empathy, social responsibility, self-confidence, and leadership skills.
In each year of the MYP, students engage in at least one collaboratively planned Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU) that combines two or more subject disciplines. Interdisciplinary learning teaches students to synthesize concepts across fields, make connections, and solve complex problems that cannot be addressed through a single lens.
The Personal Project is the culminating experience of the MYP. It is an independent, student-driven inquiry where students explore a topic of personal passion over several months, resulting in a creative product or outcome and a comprehensive report.
The Personal Project is evaluated using three equally weighted criteria, each with a maximum score of 8:
| Criterion | Objective | Max Level |
|---|---|---|
| Criterion A: Planning | Developing a learning goal and product outcome, creating success criteria, and formulating a detailed plan. | 8 |
| Criterion B: Applying Skills | Applying Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills (e.g., communication, critical thinking, self-management) to achieve goals. | 8 |
| Criterion C: Reflecting | Evaluating the final product against success criteria and reflecting on personal growth and learning impact. | 8 |
To achieve the official IB MYP Certificate, students must fulfill key program requirements:
